Assurity names Cori Mooberry EVP of Worksite Sales in return hire

Assurity Life Insurance Company has appointed Cori Mooberry as Executive Vice President of Worksite Sales, the Lincoln, Nebraska-based mutual insurer announced September 28 via PR Newswire. Mooberry fills a senior distribution role focused on worksite and voluntary benefits, a segment where carriers compete heavily for access to employer channels and independent broker networks.

Mooberry brings more than two decades of industry experience, including stints at LifeSecure and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska before moving to CareScout, the Genworth-affiliated care navigation company, where she held the title of Director and Worksite Channel Leader. She became a licensed insurance agent in 2006, according to the PR Newswire announcement.

The appointment is a return engagement. Mooberry began her insurance career at Assurity roughly 17 years ago, starting in the underwriting call center before moving into sales. PR Newswire quoted her directly on the significance: "Assurity played an important role in the foundation of my career. Returning as Executive Vice President of Worksite Sales is truly surreal...I'm grateful for the opportunity to come back with the experience and perspective I've gained along the way."

Assurity President and Chief Executive Officer Susie Keisler-Munro framed the hire around distribution execution, saying in the announcement that Mooberry "will work with our regional sales teams to expand what's possible for our distribution partners."

The worksite benefits segment has drawn renewed carrier attention as employers look to supplement core health coverage with voluntary products such as critical illness, accident and disability policies. Assurity, organized as a mutual and certified as a B Corporation, has been active in this space, and placing a returning executive with cross-carrier experience at the top of that unit suggests the company is prioritizing channel depth over a pure outside hire.

What the announcement does not establish is the scope of Mooberry's mandate in terms of specific distribution targets, headcount or product lines she will lead, nor does it indicate whether the role is newly created or a backfill. Those details would be worth tracking as Assurity's regional sales structure takes shape under her leadership.

Mooberry holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Leadership from Bellevue University and is completing a Master of Business Administration from the same institution, according to PR Newswire. She studied exercise science at Nebraska Wesleyan University earlier in her academic career.
